Nokia Siemens have announced that the new iOS 4.2 does support its Network Controlled Fast Dormancy (NCFD)technology thats has been developed by Nokia Siemens Networks. The NCFD technology is designed to keep smartphone’s in a state of ”intermediate state” readiness rather than alternating between idle and always active on the network.
When in the intermediate state iOS devices can spring into action much quicker and conserve battery life in the process and when not is use. The NCFD technology also reduces the amount of signals needed to start the data transfer betwen the iOS device and the networks allowing for a much quicker connection speed.
Nokia Siemens has not divulged how they have tested the iOS device to identify that the iOS 4.2 does contain NCFD, nor has it been revealed to the extent that NCFD has been implemented on the AT&T network. However hopefully the end result is a faster connection for any one using an iOS device eventually.
