New York gets a rooftop park at the center of the city

Aside from Manhattan's sprawling Central Park, it's not always easy to find some pleasant green space—which is what makes Lincoln Center's new rooftop lawn such a terrific idea. A grassy hill in a busy urban center—the perfect compromise.

The project, dubbed the Hypar Pavilion, adds 7,200 square feet of gently sloping grass (and a restaurant beneath) in the midst of all that concrete, providing something distinctly beautiful to look at and sit on. Is it significantly different than sitting down at pretty much any other park? Not really, no—grass is grass. But to have some green real estate to stretch out on instead of a city bench is a wonderful use of space—to say nothing of how amazing it looks from above.
